Regional Referee Administrator Job Description

Background - The job of an AYSO referee is to help maintain a competitive soccer environment that is fun, fair and safe for all of the participants. The referee is not only the sole arbiter of the game, he/she is also capable of teaching and instructing the children, especially at the younger age levels. In order to attain this objective it is imperative that each referee be provided with the information, including training, on-the-job experience and appropriate feedback.

AYSO Region 683 Fall 2007 Referee Plan

For the past 3 years I have been responsible for the referee program for AYSO Region 683 and it should be no surprise that we have a shortage of qualified referees to referee all of the age groups. It is my goal to increase the number of qualified candidates to allow each game from the U-8 age group and up to have a center referee and two assistant referees. In order to accomplish this, each U6 team will be responsible to provide at least one new referee candidate and teams from U8 and above will need to provide two candidates to referee games throughout the season. The region offers comprehensive training and will support all of our referees with continued support, training and feedback to ensure a positive experience. Additionally, I would like to recruit two local individuals, especially Spanish speaking or bi-lingual individuals to join Jeff Crump and me as Referee Instructors. This will give us four qualified teachers and the ability to hold classes and train more referees as needed for the season and post-season. With at least one Spanish-speaking instructor we can increase the involvement from the Spanish-speaking community.
